NA’s 25-game Winning Streak Snapped At Norwin

Posted on:

North Allegheny’s 25-game winning streak was snapped on Thursday night with a 56-31 loss at Norwin. The defeat also snapped a 33-game section winning streak for the Tigers that dated back to January of 2020.

The homestanding Knights raced out of the gates thanks to the hot hand of Maggie Race, who scored the first eight points of the game. Brianna Zajicek followed with a 3-pointer to give Norwin an 11-0 lead to start the ballgame. Seizing the early momentum, Norwin held a 20-7 lead after one quarter.

Unfortunately for North Allegheny, the Tigers couldn’t develop much of an offensive rhythm and were unable to get within single digits of the Knights for the rest of the evening as Norwin prevailed, 56-31.

North Allegheny did see the return of Taylor Rawls from an early season injury and the senior guard led the team with eight points. Seniors Jasmine Timmerson and Emma Fischer netted seven and six points, respectively.

As is typical for Norwin, the Knights shot well in their home gymnasium and were led by Race’s game-high 13 points. Ashley Laukus tallied 11 points and Chloe Lukondi chipped in with 10 for the Knights.

The outcome splits the season series between the two teams as North Allegheny dips to 15-1 overall and 9-1 in Section 1-6A. Norwin climbs into a first-place tie with NA, sporting a 9-1 section record and 12-4 mark overall. The Tigers look to bounce back on Tuesday night with a home date against the Butler Golden Tornado at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
