NAWP Boys go 2-0 on Day 1 of Beast of the East; Girls split on the first day

The North Allegheny water polo teams traveled to Upper Dublin High School in Philadelphia, PA to take part in the Beast of the East Tournament. On the first day of the event, the NA boys went 2-0 while the NA girls went 1-1.

For the boys, the Tigers defeated Pingry in their first matchup 16-6, NA jumped out to a 10-1 lead at the half and coasted from there. Callan Bunger led NA with four goals in the match. Grant Regule, Sravan Sukhavasi and Eddie Sanan all scored two goals. Mike Stefanko made 20 saves in net for the Tigers. In the second match, NA defeated the hosts Upper Dublin in a close one by a score of 7-6. Caden Currykosky and Tabari Morgan each led NA with two goals. Morgan and Logan Purnel had two steals a piece while Filip Malezanov dished out two assists. Stefanko made nine saves.

On the girls side, North Allegheny won their opener against Pingry by a score of 11-4. Bella Spino had six goals and five steals for the Tigers. Tori Tieppo added four goals. Mikaela Dassanaike and Mary Coffman each tallied two steals. Katherine Vales made six saves in net. In the second match of the evening, the Tigers would fall to Upper Dublin in a competitive 8-6 match. Spino had four goals and four steals in that match while Coffman had three steals. Dassanaike and Lily Tang added the other goals for the Tigers.

The NA boys improve to 9-2 on the season. The NA girls are now 5-5. The North Allegheny boys will play their first match tomorrow at 10:35 am at Wilson High School when they take on Brunswick. The NA girls are headed to Cumberland Valley where they will take on Pennridge at 8:15 am tomorrow.
