
NAWP competes in the first day of the Erie Challenge 2 tournament
The North Allegheny water polo teams traveled to Erie for the second time this week, this time to take part in the Erie Challenge 2 tournament. Friday night, both teams were at McDowell Intermediate High School taking on Exeter. The girls fell in a tight 7-6 contest while the boys won by a score of 20-10.
In the girls contest, it was tight throughout with the score 3-3 at the half. Tori Tieppo led the NA offense with three goals and had two steals defensively. Lily Tang added two goals. Bella Spino had a goal and six steals. May Coffman dished out two assists and got three steals on the defensive end. Mikaela Dassanaike and Ava Sharar had three and two steals respectively. Katherine Vales made six saves.
In the boys match, NA jumped out to a 10-5 lead at the half and continued to keep their foot on the gas throughout the second half to roll to a victory. Caden Currykosky and Tabari Morgan each tied for the team lead with six goals in the match. Morgan also had two assists. Grant Regule had four goals while Filip Malezanov and Logan Purnell each scored twice. Malezanov had two steals while Purnell added two assists. Mike Stefanko made 13 saves in net.
The NA boys improve to 12-3 overall. The NA girls are now 7-7. Both teams will be in action tomorrow at Cathedral Prep’s Hagerty Family Center with the boys playing at 9:40 a.m. against La Salle while the girls will face off with Wilson at 12:10 p.m. The boys will then play Wilson at 1:00 p.m.
