NAWP competes on first day of Screaming Eagle tournament

The North Allegheny water polo teams traveled east to Cumberland Valley High School to take on the Screaming Eagle tournament over the weekend. The boys team split on the first day, falling to conference leading Wilson 8-7 in triple overtime before bouncing back to defeat Cumberland Valley 9-3 later. The girls team dropped a pair of contests, 10-1 against Wilson and 10-3 against Cumberland Valley.

For the boys against Wilson, the biggest lead anyone had in the match was a two-goal lead. Callan Bunger led the Tigers with three goals while Tabari Morgan added two goals. Mason Shantz had a goal to go along with three assists and three steals. Caden Currykosky dished out two assists and had two steals while Grant Regule added the other goal. Mike Stefanko made 11 saves and had three assists as well.

In the second match against Cumberland Valley, Morgan fueled the Tiger offense with four goals and helped out on defense with two steals. Currykosky and Filip Malezanov each had two goals in the match. Currykosky had two steals while Malezanov helped out with three assists. Shantz had four assists and two steals. Bunger had a goal and Stefanko made 15 saves.

On the girls side, Bella Spino had a goal against Wilson assisted by Mikaela Dassanaike. In the Cumberland Valley match, Lily Tang scored twice and Spino had another goal. Katherine Vales made 10 saves.

The North Allegheny boys now have a 14-6 record. The girls are now 8-10. Both teams return to action today at Cumberland Valley when they take on Muhlenberg and Souderton. The girls play at 9:40 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. while the boys are in action at 10:30 a.m. and 1:50 p.m.
