North Allegheny blanks Hampton for sixth straight win
by: Bob Orkwis
In a non-section and cross classification matchup, North Allegheny welcomed Hampton to Newman Stadium for a Saturday afternoon tilt. The Tigers continued their run of success by dispatching the Talbots 4-0.
It didn’t take the Tigers long to grab the lead. Nathan Katari found Noah Hutter in the left side of the box, and Hutter was able to maneuver around a diving Gavin Guinn from Hampton and slide the ball into the empty net for his fourth goal of the season in the fourth minute for a 1-0 lead.
Despite having multiple first half opportunities and several near misses, the score remained 1-0 at halftime.
The Tigers persistence on the ball paid off with three second half goals.
Katari, who had a fantastic game, took a feed from Zach Nash from the right goal line and tapped it into to the net for a 2-0 lead in the 53rd minute.
In the 66th minute, Lucas Henderson fed a pass to Myk Denysenko who buried the shot for his sixth goal of the season to give North Allegheny a 3-0 lead.
In the final minute of play, the Tigers added their fourth goal, which was a team pleaser. Sophomore Owen Lopresti was fouled in the box, and when he slid his shot inside the near post for his first career goal, he was met by his teammates in the corner after the marker.
Ryan Young and Emiliano Perin combined on the shutout for the Tigers.
Hampton, (6-2-3), had conceded only one goal on the year before allowing four against the Tigers.
With his dominance on the ball, his fifth goal of the season and an assist, Katari earned the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.
It’s all 4A Section 3 play the rest of the way for North Allegheny (10-2-1), with four of the remaining five matches at home. That stretch starts Tuesday night with Pine-Richland at Newman Stadium, which can be heard on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
