NA Edged By Pine-Richland In Overtime, 9-8

Two top-five teams in Division 1 lacrosse went head to head on Wednesday night and the Pine-Richland Rams edged the North Allegheny Tigers for a 9-8 win in overtime.

Trailing 6-2 in the third quarter, North Allegheny rattled off four straight goals to even the score at 6-6 by the end of the period. Wes Powell, Greg Ferringer, Dillon Dugan and Gavin Hagen provided the third-period scoring for the Tigers.

Pine-Richland answered back with two goals to start the fourth quarter for an 8-6 lead. Unfazed, Hagen responded with his third goal of the night to trim the deficit to 8-7 with 5:06 remaining and Powell netted the equalizer with just 25 seconds left to force overtime. However, Pine-Richland scored the game winner with 3:24 remaining in the extra session to claim the 9-8 victory.

Aiding the Tigers’ cause in the close contest was freshman Antonio O’Barto who garnered a team-high four forced errors. Jack Kairys scooped up a team-best four ground balls and freshman Ben Maenza scored a first-half goal to add to the NA output.

North Allegheny, who has already clinched a playoff spot, falls to 9-8 overall and 4-1 in Division 1, Section 2. Pine-Richland improves to 12-4 overall and 5-1 in the section. The Tigers visit Peters Township in the regular season finale Thursday night.
