Pool Records Fall In Sweep of Butler

The North Allegheny boys set pool records in all three relay events, and juniors Lauren McGrath and Eben Krigger posted pool-record times in the 100-yard freestyle, as the North Allegheny swimming and diving teams swept Butler on Tuesday, January 26 at Butler Senior High School.  The NA girls won 99-63, while the NA Boys won 97-71, as each team remained undefeated in WPIAL dual meets.

Krigger swam the opening leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay in 47.85, which qualifies as a pool record for the 100-yard freestyle because his leg of the relay started off the blocks.  He teamed with senior Daniel Songer, sophomore Mason Gonzalez and freshman Jack Wright to win in 3:13.11, also a pool record.  That same group set a pool record in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.74.  Songer and Gonzalez also were part of the 200-yard medley relay team (with seniors Gage Halle and Colin MacDonald) that set a pool record of 1:38.92.  Gonzalez won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:59.57, Krigger won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.33, and MacDonald won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:08.60.  The other first-place finisher among the boys in individual events was freshman Joel Songer in the 100-yard freestyle (49.66).  NA’s Nathan Ziegler won the diving with a score of 186.95.
McGrath’s pool-record time in the 100-yard freestyle was 52.37.

Other first-place finishers among the girls in individual events were sophomore Jordan Ennis in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.72); junior Aimee Verardi in the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.41); sophomore Ann Juneau in the 500-yard freestyle (5:29.03); and junior Serena Yan in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.79).  The NA girls also won the 200-yard medley relay (McGrath, seniors Katie Wright and Erin Kuhn, and junior Anna Verardi) in 1:53.23; the 200-yard freestyle relay (McGrath, Kuhn and both Verardis) in 1:42.21; and the 400-yard freestyle relay (Juneau, Anna Verardi, junior Megan Christy and senior Gianna Caputo) in 3:43.18.

In diving, Morgan Rutan finished third with a score of 184.25.
