Second Half Outburst Helps NA Earn At Least Share Of Section Crown

Posted on:

North Allegheny exploded for five second half goals and punished the North Hills Indians on Wednesday night, 5-0, in their section finale.  NA’s win, coupled with a tie by Seneca Valley and Butler on Wednesday night, ensures the Lady Tigers at least a share of the Section-AAA title. North Allegheny can win the title outright if Seneca Valley stumbles in their final section game against Pine-Richland on Monday night.

The Lady Tigers outshot North Hills 8-0 in the first half and heavily outplayed their opponent, but went into the intermission in a scoreless. Continuing to control the temp, North Allegheny opened the floodgates when Megan Barfuss fed a pass to Alexa Mermigas who buried a shot in the upper right corner of the net to put the Tigers ahead, 1-0. In the 23rd minute, North Hills managed their only shot on net for the game and was denied by Tigers keeper Madison Martin.  The senior net minder then cleared the ball out to Monica Pike for a shot and goal in the left corner to make it 2-0, NA.

The Tigers added on in the 31st minute as Megan Van Kirk served in a corner kick to Lauren Briggs who finished off the play for a goal and a 3-0 Tigers advantage. The onslaught continued with goals by Savana Yurick and Gabby Smychynsky to cap off a dominating 5-0 win over the rival Indians. For the game, NA outshot North Hills, 20-1.

North Allegheny jumps to 14-1-1 overall and 10-1-1 in Section 2-AAA. North Hills falls to 1-13 overall and 0-11 within the section.
