Second-Ranked Butler Outlasts NA, 72-65
The North Allegheny boys’ basketball team dropped its Section 1-6A opener on the road on Friday night, 72-65, to the Butler Golden Tornado.
The Tigers started strong and held a 13-7 lead after one quarter. However, the second-ranked Tornado outscored NA 21-11 in the second quarter to grab a 28-24 lead by halftime. North Allegheny hung tough in the second half but Division I recruit Ethan Morton and the Tornado fended off the Tigers for a seven-point win. Morton scored a game-high 33 points and corralled eight rebounds.
North Allegheny was paced on the scoresheet by senior Mike Egnaczyk, who netted a team-best 17 points on 8 of 13 shooting from the field. Senior Nico Erimias tallied 14 points and sophomore Khalil Dinkins totaled 10 points and six rebounds.
With the outcome, North Allegheny falls to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in Section 1-6A. Butler improves to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the section. The Tigers return to action on Thursday at the Wright Automotive Holiday Tournament with a home game against the Gateway Gators at 7:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
