Strong First Period Propels NA To 4-3 Win Over Cathedral Prep
North Allegheny scored four goals in the first period and staved off a Cathedral Prep rally for a 4-3 road win on Tuesday night at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
The Tigers stormed out of the gates in the opening stanza for a 4-0 lead thanks to goals from Matt Gentile, Collin O’Neil, Dylan Watkins and Tyler Putnam. Cathedral Prep managed to draw a goal before the end of the first period on a marker by Michael Orlando to cut NA’s lead to 4-1.
In the second period, Prep scored twice on goals by Patrick Kelly and James Sturm to pull to within a goal of NA at 4-3.
Goalie Josh Bailey and the NA defense fended off Cathedral Prep in a scoreless third period to preserve the one-goal lead for a 4-3 triumph. Bailey made 19 saves to earn the victory. Cathedral Prep goalie Seth Faulkner made 23 saves in a losing effort.
North Allegheny remains in first place in the PIHL Class AAA standings with 12 points and a 6-1 record. Cathedral Prep is still winless on the season with an 0-7 record. The Tigers will take on third-place Seneca Valley on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
