Strong Showing For NA In Day One of PIAA Championships

The North Allegheny girls’ swimming and diving team sits in a tie for third place with Fox Chapel after day one of the PIAA Class AAA swimming and diving championships. The Lady Tigers have a team score of 69, eight points behind second-place Hershey and 72 points behind first-place Hatboro Horsham High School. The North Allegheny boys’ team sits in 14th-place tie with Emmaus with a team score of 25. Liberty leads the field on the boys’ side with a team score of 109.

The Girls 200 Medley Relay Team took 5th place at the PIAA Class AAA Championships.

The top performance on the day was provided by junior Lexi Sundgren (pictured above) who took fourth place in the 200 Free with a time of 1.49.10. Sundgren was also a part of the 200 Free Relay team, including sophomore Natalie Sens, junior Rebecca Melanson and junior Delaney Kennedy, that claimed sixth place with a time of 1:36.87. In the 200 Medley Relay, the quartet of senior Isabella Dietz, sophomore Greta Mott, Sens and Melanson earned a fifth-place finish, clocking in at 1:45.90. For the NA Boys, sophomore William Gao earned a 12th place showing in the 200 IM and senior Zachary Jubeck took 13th place in the 200 Free. The combo of Gao, senior Stewart Messer, sophomore Riley Williams and junior Ben Gavran picked up important team points with a 13th place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:37.13. In the 200 Free Relay, Gao, Gavran, junior Keller Sens and Messer clocked in at 1:27.06 for a 13th place showing. For a look at all the Class AAA boys’ scores on day one, click here.
