Third-Period Outburst Leads NA Past Canon-McMillan, 7-3

A five-goal outburst in the third period and a hat trick by junior Nate Spak helped propel North Allegheny to a 7-3 win over Canon-McMillan on Thursday night.

Spak’s first two goals helped keep things close in the first two periods as the Tigers trailed 3-2 heading into the third period. A power play goal by junior Trey Gallo tied the game, 3-3, at the 1:29 mark of the third period to spark a third period avalanche.

Just 31 seconds after the Gallo marker, sophomore Evan Kaminski gave the Tigers the lead and added another at the 9:29 mark of the period for a 5-3 advantage. A minute later, junior Matt Irvin scored to increase the score to 6-3, North Allegheny, and Spak capped the scoring with an empty net goal in the waning minutes to polish off a 7-3 triumph.

In net, junior Rylan Murphy made 20 saves to earn the victory, while Canon-Mac’s James Morgan tallied 27 saves in a losing effort.

With the win, North Allegheny improves to 13-1-1 on the season and remains in first place in the Class AAA standings. Canon-McMillan slips to 2-12-1 and sits in last place in the standings. The Tigers return to action on Monday with a home game against Peters Township at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
