Tigers Batter Rams, 5-0, To Remain Unbeaten
The North Allegheny ice hockey team punished Pine-Richland on Thursday night, 5-0, to remain unbeaten on the season.
The Tigers set the tone in the first period by outshooting the Rams, 14-1, in the opening stanza. NA’s relentless pressure resulted in the game’s first goal when senior Cole Jackman scored at the 4:08 mark for a 1-0 lead.
In the second period, Pine-Richland settled into the game and outshot NA, 9-2. The Rams advantage in shots was fruitless, however, as the Tigers’ Matt Irvin scored the only marker of the period to increase the lead to 2-0.
The third period was controlled by North Allegheny with a trio of goals courtesy of Trey Gallo, Kyle Holmes and Patrick Buttignol. The final goal by Buttignol was a power play marker with just 59 seconds remaining.
Sophomore goalie Andrew Long earned his first career varsity shutout by stopping 20 pucks. Pine-Richland’s Daniel Mooney made 22 saves in a losing effort.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 4-0-0 on the season, while Pine-Richland falls to 2-2-0. The Tigers will host Cathedral Prep on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 9:10 p.m.
