Tigers Beat Birmingham, Powell Nets Game Winner In OT
Sophomore Wes Powell scored four goals, including the game winner in double overtime, to lift North Allegheny to a 10-9 win over Birmingham (MI) at the MSCLA Tournament on Saturday.
Birmingham built leads of 3-1 and 4-2 in the first half before the Tigers roared back on goals by Ben Maenza and Powell, to even the score by halftime at 4-4. The two teams traded punches in the second half with NA grabbing a 9-8 lead with 5:09 to play thanks to a goal by junior Trevor Saundry. Birmingham tied the game with 1:59 remaining in regulation but Powell’s heroics in double overtime sent the Tigers home happy for the weekend.
