Tigers Beat Crusaders In Non-Conference Tilt

The North Allegheny boys’ basketball team beat Bishop Canevin 52-44 in the Holiday Bash Tournament from UPMC Court Saturday.
Both teams moved the basketball smoothly in the first quarter, with Canevin junior Drew Allen scoring the first 10 points for the Crusaders. NA senior Jon Jubeck made his presence known throughout the contest, hitting multiple three pointers and accelerating the Tiger offense. Sophomore Ben Coffman hit a timely first half triple, while senior Carter Melzer settled in and led the team to a 26-16 lead at halftime.
North Allegheny kept the pace going into the third frame, outscoring Bishop Canevin 13-7 in the quarter. Strong play from senior Carson Burns and junior Justin Stalter padded NA’s lead. The Crusaders made a run in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Tigers 19-13 in the frame, but NA held on for the tough win.
Jubeck took home Wright Automotive Player of the Game laurels for his 19-point performance. Melzer ended with nine points, Stalter had eight and Burns scored seven total. Allen finished with a game-high 24 points for the Crusaders.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 5-3 overall. The Tigers continue Holiday Bash play Monday afternoon at 4:30 with a game against Sewickley Academy at Butler High School.
