If you are thinking it’s been a while since the Tigers hit the ice for some hockey action, you are correct. North Allegheny is in a stretch where they play three games in 34 days.

So far so good for the non-frequent Tigers, after beating Central Catholic on October 17th, North Allegheny shut out Bethel Park 3-0 at the Baierl Ice Complex for its second straight victory.

Johnnie Castillo jumped on a loose puck in the left corner and wheeled into the slot, before throwing a wrist shot into the top of the net for a 1-0 lead at 7:29 of the first period.

For most of the game, it looked like that goal might hold up. The game stayed the same until the Tigers found some insurance halfway through the third period. Marc Joyson started a 3-on-2 when he tapped a pass to Justin Hai on the left wing. Hai’s centering pass found the stick of Tommy Vidra who slid the puck into the net from his off wing for his first goal of the season to put North Allegheny up by a pair of goals at the 8:00 minute mark of the period.

At 14:49, the Tigers scored again on another odd man break. Ravi Desai gained the puck on a great back checking effort and found Joyson who got the biscuit to William Kasunich who buried his third goal of the year to make the final score 3-0.

Senior goalie Cam Junker made 14 saves to pick up the win with his second shutout of the season.

Junior forward Johnnie Castillo’s first goal of the season and first varsity tally as a Tiger, which turned out to be the game-winning goal, was enough to earn the Wright Automotive Player of the Game honors. 

It will be another 17 days before the North Allegheny (2-2-1) hits the ice again for a 3A contest. Thomas Jefferson heads to Warrendale on November 17th to face the Tigers in a contest that can be heard on the North Allegheny Sports Network at 9:10 p.m.
