Tigers Blast Bridgers To Begin Season, 8-0
After posting seven shutouts last season, the North Allegheny boys’ soccer team began 2023 by blanking the Ambridge Bridgers, 8-0, at the Pine-Richland Invitational. The combination of goalies Dante Accamando, Ryan Young and Ben Waldo made two saves to shutout the WPIAL runner-up in Class 2A from last season.
With the NA defense holding Ambridge at bay, the Tigers scored the game’s first goal in the 21st minute when junior Lucas Henderson scored on a rebound from an Arnav Patel shot. On a corner kick in the 27trh minute, senior Joey Vojtas scored, assisted by junior Caleb Rumberger, for a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, the Tigers buried the Bridgers under an avalanche of goals. Vojtas scored two more goals over the final 40 minutes to notch a hat trick. Other Tigers who tickled the back of the net in second half included Rumberger, and juniors Noah Hutter, Will Love and Zach Nash. Hutter tallied a pair of assists, and Love added another.
North Allegheny outshot Ambridge, 13-2. Bridgers goalie Carter Catalano maded five saves.
Following the season opening win, North Allegheny will look to make two in a row at the Pine-Richland Invitational against Kiski School on Sunday.
