Tigers Claw Past Panthers For Road Win, 11-9

The North Allegheny boys’ lacrosse team traveled to the south hills of Pittsburgh and came away with an 11-9 non-section win over the Upper St. Clair Panthers on Tuesday night. Senior Dillon Dugan netted four goals and junior Wes Powell tallied a hat trick to spearhead the North Allegheny attack.

Senior attack Trevor Saundry scored the only goal of the first quarter, assisted by freshman Isaiah Davis, to give NA a 1-0 advantage. North Allegheny extended the lead to 5-2 by halftime and led the vast majority of the night. Upper St. Clair came to within one goal of the Tigers entering the fourth period with the score at 8-7, but North Allegheny put the game away with three straight goals to start the final stanza. Dugan, Powell and senior Alec Vissotski tallied goals in the fourth quarter. Senior attack Gavin Hagen totaled two goals in the third quarter and junior Jono Pelusi added a goal in the second period. Hagen and sophomore Ben Maenza also had assists on the night.

In net, senior Ean Kuska got the start and posted seven saves to earn the victory. Senior defenseman Greg Ferringer helped keep the Tigers in possession with six ground balls and a team-high five forced errors. Senior Jack Kairys posted a team-best eight ground balls and added three forced errors.

North Allegheny improves to 1-1 overall with the non-section victory. Upper St. Clair slips to 1-1 on the season. The Tigers will open section play on Wednesday night with a visit to Shaler to take on the Titans.
