
Tigers collect big road section win against North Hills
North Allegheny traveled to North Hills High School on Friday night as a part of a girls/boys doubleheader. With North Hills just a game behind the Tigers in the section standings, both teams were looking for a win to have the inside track in the playoff picture. NA jumped out to an early lead and finished the fourth quarter strong to come away with a key 51-35 victory on the road.
The first quarter was all Tigers as they jumped out to a 17-4 lead. North Hills settled in and made their push in the second quarter outscoring North Allegheny 12-6, but the Tigers still led 23-16 at halftime. In the second half, Rosalia Varlotta took over, scoring 17 of her 21 points after halftime and North Allegheny pulled away for the 51-36 win.
Leah Skweres and Natalie Kinross each added eight points.
North Allegheny improves to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in Section 1-6A. North Hills falls to 3-9 overall and 0-4 in section play. The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Butler at UPMC Court at 6:30 p.m. This will be a part of a girl/boy doubleheader and will be broadcast on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
