Tigers Crown Two Champs, Win Team Title At Allegheny County Tournament

North Allegheny crowned two individual champions and won the team tournament title at the Allegheny Country Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at Fox Chapel High School. The Tigers proved victorious at the two-day tournament with a team score of 222.5 as nine NA grappler medaled.

Casey Walker and Dylan Coy won individual titles at the Allegheny County Tournament.

Individual gold was claimed by sophomore Casey Walker at 106 pounds and senior Dylan Coy at 126. Walker defeated top-seed Giovonie Schipani of North Hills in the semifinals by a 5-4 decision, and followed that up with a 10-6 decision over Plum’s Rylen Campbell in the title bout at 106. Coy was the No. 1 seed at 126 and rolled to the finals with four wins by fall and defeated Pine-Richland’s Anthony Ferraro in the title bout by a 4-0 decision.

Three Tigers earned tournament silver with runner-up finishes. Sophomore Travis Stipetich (145), A.J. Rohan (160) and sophomore Aidan Buggey (215) all took second place in their respective weight classes.

At 132 pounds, junior Nathan Monteparte claimed a fourth-place finish, while junior Jayson Flener garnered sixth place at 138 pounds.

Freshman Kellen Buggey defeated Mt. Lebanon’s Nick Busalacchi by a 9-8 decision in the seventh-place consolation bout at 152. At 172, senior Nick Caruso also took seventh place with a win by default over Baldwin’s John Starusko.

The North Allegheny boys’ wrestling team will rest up for the Section 3-AAA Team Tournament on Wednesday, Jan. 26. The team tournament will be broadcast live by the North Allegheny Sports Network.
