
Tigers Cruise By Cavaliers In WPIAL First Round, 5-0
The North Allegheny girls’ tennis team opened the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs on Monday afternoon with a 5-0 sweep of the Kiski Area Cavaliers. The third-seeded Tigers cruised to the win over the visiting Cavaliers.
In singles play, junior Sara Fernandez posted a 6-0, 6-1, triumph over Ambur Orowitz at No. 1. Senior captains Emily Wincko and Abbey Swirsding didn’t allow a single point in their matches, winning 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
In similar fashion, the No. 1 doubles tandem of Reagan Dougherty and Eileen Hu rolled over Sabrina Wilson and Asya Welch, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, Tia Soussou and Rebecca Murphy cruised to a 6-0, 6-0, victory against Savannah Renwick and Ella McBryde.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 12-2 on the season. The Tigers advance to the WPIAL quarterfinals and will host Franklin Regional on Wednesday.
