Tigers erase 3-goal deficit, beat Butler 7-6 in OT

The NA Tigers prevailed in a 7-6 victory over the Butler Tornado in what was a back and forth game that went to overtime with multiple lead changes Sunday at the RMU Island Sports Center.

The Tornado struck first early in the game but the Tigers answered with a goal from senior Steven Cameron, assisted by junior Matthew Noffsinger tying it at 1-1.

In the second period it was the Tornado once again regaining the lead before Noffsinger tied it back up at 2-2 with an unassisted goal. The Tornado answered with two additional goals securing a 4-2 lead to close out period two.

Early in the third period the Tornado added an additional goal to their scoring tab taking a 5-2 advantage. Not to be outdone, the Tigers battled and chipped away at the deficit notching the next four goals. It was sophomore Christian Mark opening the scoring for the Tigers, followed by back to back goals from Noffsinger assisted by senior Ethan Zadnik. A Zadnik goal gave the Tigers a brief 6-5 lead. With a late penalty call on the Tigers, the Tornado tied the game with under a minute to play, ending regulation with a 6-6 tie.

The Tigers wasted no time in the OT period as it was Noffsinger once again, for his fourth goal on the day with the game-winning shot and the Tigers held on for the 7-6 victory.

Junior goalie Claudia Kushon earns the win as the Tigers improve their record to 4-1. The Tigers will be back in action next Sunday at 10:00 AM against the Panthers of Upper St. Clair at the RMU Island Sports Center.
