TIGERS FALL IN SECTION FINALE AT NORTH HILLS
by Dave Floyd
Despite a complete game two-hitter by starting pitcher Jake Fischbaugh, North Allegheny fell 1-0 at rival North Hills on Friday night. The Indians scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the Section 1-AAAA victory.
After Fischbaugh retired the first two batters he faced in the seventh, Tyler Volz walked and then attempted to steal second. Junior catcher Daniel McCauley’s throw sailed into center field, and Volz advanced all the way to third. He then came in to score when junior shortstop Blake Young was unable to field a Boyd Bestic groundball cleanly.
Fischbaugh struck out nine Indian batters and walked just two. For his performance, the junior righty earned the honor of Wright Automotive Player of the Game.
North Allegheny managed just three hits—all singles—off of North Hills starter Mike Serpa. The junior right hander struck out four and walked four to pick up the complete game victory. Juniors Keegan Phillips and Garrett Hagen each went 1-for-2 with a walk to lead the Tigers at the plate.
Friday’s contest completed section play for each of the teams. North Hills improved to 10-7 overall and 5-5 in Section 1-AAAA. North Allegheny dropped to 10-8 overall and 6-4 in the section. The Tigers complete their regular season schedule Monday night at home against Hempfield. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Pairings for the WPIAL playoffs will be announced next Friday.
