Tigers fall to Seneca Valley, 1-0
by: Bob Orkwis
The Raiders came into Newman Stadium with a one-game lead in Section 3-4A over both North Allegheny and Pine-Richland.
Seneca Valley maintained that lead, getting the game’s only goal in the second half to defeat the Tigers 1-0.
Junior Karly Majesky took an extreme angle shot from along the left goal line and the ball snuck past the goal line in the 51st minute for the games only marker.
Mia Barsoti had the best chance for the Tigers in the first half, but her shot from the left side of the box narrowly missed the far post.
Kieran Shannon had two great opportunities to tie the game for North Allegheny in the second half.
Her shot from the left wing was stopped by Sydney Postler of Seneca Valley, then in the waning minutes of the game, Shannon’s free kick from just outside the box was blocked by the Raiders defensive wall.
With the win, and Pine- Richland’s win over North Hills, Seneca Valley (6-2, 3-0), now leads the Rams by a game in the section.
North Allegheny, (5-3, 2-2) falls into third place.
With her efforts to tie the game in the second half, sophomore forward Kieran Shannon was chosen as the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.
North Allegheny next travels to Butler to take on the Golden Tornado on Thursday before a non-section tilt at home on Saturday against Fox Chapel, in a rematch of last year’s 4A title game.
