Tigers Handle Tornado

North Allegheny’s Swimming and Diving teams traveled to Butler on Wednesday evening and enjoyed victories over the host Golden Tornadoes.  The NA Girls cruised to a 105 – 76 win while the NA Boys were victorious by a score of 101 – 77 in the meet at Butler High School.

Once again, the Tigers Girls and Boys won every relay contest, showing the depth of their lineup in all events.    

For the Tiger Girls, Sophomore Taylor McClellan led off the individual competition with a victory in the 200 Yard Freestyle, touching in a time of 2:05.09 followed by Junior Claire Washabaugh finishing in second place.  In the Girls 200 Yard Individual Medley, the Tigers were led by Sophomore Christine Sun with a winning time of 2:22.33.  Finishing in third and fourth for the event were Sophomore Nicole Synan and Freshman Nediva Levine.  Junior Kayla Churman and Senior co-Captain Kristen Bishop finished 1-2 in the Girls 50 Yard Freestyle sprint with times of 25.47 seconds and 25.72 seconds.  In the Girls 100 Yard Butterfly, Junior Charlie Brickner was victorious, touching the wall first in a time of 1:01.61, with McClellan finishing third and Freshman Katie Davis in fourth place.  NA’s Girls then swept the 500 Yard Freestyle event led by Sophomore Erin Kuhn and a time of 5:30.45.  She was followed by Freshmen Eliza Ross and Megan Christy in second and third places, all achieving WPIAL qualifying times.  Tiger Girls also finished 1-2-3 in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with Senior co-Captain Jade Song leading the way in 1:13.35 followed by Junior Maggie Root and Freshman Lauren McGrath.

The Tiger Boys competition included a 1-2 finish in the 200 Yard Individual Medley, with Junior Max Staresinic posting a winning time of 2:04.53 followed by Senior Gabe Gaspar in second place.  Another 1-2 finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle was turned in by Freshman Eben Krigger winning in 24.12 seconds followed by Senior Connor Smith.  Sophomore Colin MacDonald won the Boys 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 57.22 seconds followed by Krigger in second, with Freshman Thomas McCaffrey in fourth place.  The Tiger Boys later swept the 500 Yard Freestyle with Staresinic winning in 5:04.50 followed closely by Gaspar and Junior Jake Krivacs.  The 100 Yard Breaststroke event saw Senior Sam Rutan, Sophomore Daniel Songer, and McCaffrey all swim well as they place second, third, and fourth. 

North Allegheny’s Boys Divers had another good showing with Junior Levi Curry, and Sophomores Jared Zeigler and Stephen Savchick finishing in second, third, and fourth places. 

Notable events on the evening for the Tigers were the setting of pool records for Junior Morgan Soulia in the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle (52.51 seconds) and by the Boys 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Juniors Greg Arnold and Casey Melzer, Senior Zachary Buerger, and Freshman Maxwell Gonzalez (3:14.93). 

The teams are in competition this coming weekend January 17 & 18 at the All-American Invitational in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
