In a duel between unbeaten Class AAAA powers, the Norwin Knights held off the North Allegheny Tigers by a 68-59 decision on Thursday night in a non-section contest. Norwin has become a major obstacle for North Allegheny in recent years as the Tigers dropped three games to the Knights last season, including postseason meetings in the WPIAL and PIAA playoffs.

Alyana Gribble, who recently became the all-time leading scorer at Norwin, netted a game-high 30 points in the Knights win over the Tigers. Norwin stunned NA with a 22-7 first quarter and held off the Tigers’ attempt at a second half rally. North Allegheny cut the score to 54-50, Knights, on a Haley Zeise 3-pointer with 3:43 remaining in the third quarter in its comeback effort but unfortunately was unable to take the lead.

North Allegheny had three players touch double figures with senior Abby Gonzales leading the way with 19 points and five steals. Zeise scored 12 points and freshman Rachel Martindale finished with 10 points. Senior Taylor Lake grabbed 10 rebounds and added seven points.

North Allegheny dips to 5-1 overall with the non-section loss. Norwin stays perfect with a 7-0 overall mark. The Lady Tigers return to section action on Monday night with a visit to Butler.
