Tigers Outfox Foxes For 3-0 Win

Seniors Ben Marsico and Keegan Phillips combined for a shutout and a 3-0 win over the Fox Chapel Foxes on Tuesday night. The shutout was the third by the NA pitching staff in the last four games. Marsico tossed the first six innings to earn the win and Phillips worked the seventh inning for the save. Marsico proved more than capable with the bat as well, going 2 for 3 at the plate with a run scored to help his own cause.

The Tigers started quickly in the bottom of the first inning as Blake Young singled home Dillan Layman and Phillips for a 2-0 lead. North Allegheny added another run in the fifth inning when Bobby Brown drew a bases loaded walk to score Marsico from third to bring the score to 3-0, Tigers.

The three-run lead was more than enough for Marsico who scattered eight hits, struck out four and issued no walks in a fine outing on the bump. Fox Chapel starter Ryan Humbert suffered the loss, allowing two runs in three innings of work.

North Allegheny improves to 8-3 on the season with the non-section win and will host the Butler Golden Tornado in a Section 1-AAAA battle on Friday night. The meeting with Butler will be broadcast live via the internet on the North Allegheny Sports Network.
