Tigers pick up non-section win over Penn-Trafford, 40-29
North Allegheny hosted Penn-Trafford on Friday night in a non-section matchup at UPMC Court. The Tigers trailed by one with two bouts to go but got back-to-back pins to come away with a 40-29 win over the Warriors.
Starting at 107, Joseph Synan and Charlie LaQuatra won by forfeit to give NA the 12-0 lead. Penn-Trafford won the next two bouts to cut the lead to 12-9. Gus Stedeford won by tech fall but the Warriors took the next two matches to tie the score 17-17. Griffen Reid won by tech fall and Brody Barnhart pulled off an improbable comeback to get the pin to make the score 28-23. Penn-Trafford won the next two bouts and took the lead 29-28. Mason Hartung and Bradyn McConneha put the match away each getting pins and giving the Tigers a 40-29 victory.
Barnhart trailed 19-5 with 15 seconds remaining in his match, he was able to cut loose and get the pin in improbable fashion. For his efforts, Barnhart was named the Wrestler of the Match.
North Allegheny improves to 11-2 overall. Penn Trafford falls to 4-3 overall. The Tigers will have the week of Christmas off before heading to Liberty High School to take part in the Bethlehem Holiday Classic on December 28 and 29.
