Tigers season ends in OT heartbreaker to Peters Township
by: Bob Orkwis
In a rematch of the 2022 4A WPIAL Championship match, fourth-seeded North Allegheny took on top-seeded Peters Township in the WPIAL Semifinals at Fox Chapel High School on Monday night.
Just like the title game, which needed PK’s to crown the Tigers champions, tonight’s match needed overtime, and it was the Indians who extracted a small measure of revenge, defeating North Allegheny 2-1.
NA got its first corner kick in the final minute of the first half, and they took advantage of the opportunity. Aubrey Wells service from the far flag slid through the hands of Indians goalkeeper Molly Kubistek for a 1-0 lead.

That margin stood until the 71st minute, when sophomore Amanda Pirosko took a through ball down the right wing and angled a shot into the far side of the net for the equalizer.
The Tigers nearly got the game-winner in the 77th minute, but Mia Barsotti’s shot from distance struck the crossbar and regulation ended at 1-1.
The Indians netted the game winner off a throw in, six minutes into extra time. Taylor McCullough’s throw in bounced away from the box, and sophomore Cailin Martin’s left footed strike glanced off the fingertips of Maggie Nestor into the top of the net for the 2-1 victory.
Peters Township (18-0-1), which had not allowed a goal in seven matches, moves into the championship game to face #2 Seneca Valley.
North Allegheny’s season ends with a (12-6-1) record.
It was decided in the press box to award the final girls soccer Wright Automotive Player of the Game to North Allegheny’s eleven seniors, Kanak Agarwal, Rowan Barsotti, Isabella Costa, Tess Duchi, Kylie Dutkovich, Addi Heim, Maddie Miller, Maggie Nestor, Caroline Remesnky, Eliana Vitale, and Aubrey Wells who finished their Tiger careers with a WPIAL championship and a WPIAL runner-up finish last season. Congrats to head coach Chuck Kelly and the entire staff and team on another successful season.
