Tigers Sweep Bethel Park to Remain Unbeaten

The North Allegheny swimming and diving teams continued their undefeated season streak and swept Bethel Park in a non-sectional dual meet Monday evening in NASH Natatorium.  The NA girls won by a score of 100-67 and the NA boys won by the score of 101-80. For the season, the NA girls and NA boys are both 7-0 in dual meets.

Overall, the Tigers girls won 9 or 12 events including the 1-meter diving competition.  The NA boys won 7 of the 12 events including diving.

It was a fun night of diving for both the NA girls and NA boys. For the girls, senior Eva Betz, junior Maddie Whitewolf, and junior Faith Miller swept first, second and third places against the BP girls. On the boys’ side, junior Will Schenk maintained his undefeated season and posted the highest score of the evening. WPIAL qualifier, junior Alex Palermo placed second and Cordon McConnell from Bethel Park placed third.

The swimming events started strong for the NA girls with a 1-2-3 sweep in the first 4 consecutive swim events of the meet.

The 200-yard medley relay was won by NA with the team of junior Vivien Li, senior captain Isabella Dietz, freshman May Coffman, and sophomore Greta Mott.

The 200-yard freestyle event sweep included sophomore Natalie Sens, junior Delaney Kennedy, and freshman Shea Mahon. The 200-yard IM event sweep included with Mott, Coffman, and freshman Julianne Weaver. The 50-yard freestyle event sweep included junior Rebecca Melanson, Dietz, and junior Marissa Milliron.

The NA girls had another victory in the 100-yard butterfly event from junior captain Lexi Sundgren. Dietz and freshman Ava Sharar finished 3-4.

The girls had another 1-2-3 sweep in the 100-yard freestyle with junior Mikayla Tieppo, Li, and junior Sophia Huwar.

The girls finished 1-2-4 in the 500-yard freestyle with an extremely exciting close finish with freshman Brianna Reinhart edging out teamate Mahon by a margin of only 0.22 seconds. Freshman Josia Daltorio captured 4th place in the event.

The NA girls had exhibition swims for the final 3 events as the team victory was well in-hand following the 500-yard freestyle event.

The NA boys started with a relay victory in the 200-yard medly relay with the team of sophomore William Gao, senior captain Stewart Messer, sophomore Riley Williams, and junior Keller Sens.

The NA boys finished 2-3-4 in the 200-yard freestyle with junior Eliot Maravich, sophomore Josh Berty, and senior captain Ethan Berty.

The NA boys had an impressive 1-2-3 sweep in the 200-yard individual medley event with senior Jacob Yarosz, junior David Shi, and freshman Gus Miller.

The boys 50-yard freestyle was an especially close race by the entire field. The NA boys finished 2-4-5 with junior Ben Gavran, freshman Grant Regule, and senior Hayden Klein.

The NA boys captured 1-3-4 in the 100-yard butterfly event with Gao, freshman Nicholas Klein, and R. Williams.

The boys 100-yard freestyle came down to a very tight victory by Gavran by the margin of 0.09 seconds.  K. Sens and Messer finished in 3rd and 4th place.

The NA boys captured 1-2-5 in the 500-yard freestyle event with Maravich, J. Berty, and E. Berty.

The NA boys finished 2-3-4 in the 200-yard freestyle relay and had another 1-2-3 sweep in the 100-yard backstroke event with Gao, Miller, and K. Sens.

The NA boys wrapped up the victory early and swam exhibition for the final 2 events of the meet following the backstroke event.

The Tigers will travel to Seneca Valley for a section match-up on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 6 pm.
