The North Allegheny girls’ volleyball team started the season on a winning note as the Tigers beat Oakland Catholic 3-0 at UPMC Court Thursday night. NA won by set scores of 25-22, 25-13 and 25-12.

The first set started out strong for the Tigers, but the Eagles climbed back from a few deficits to make it a competitive frame. NA held a four-point advantage in a couple of spots thanks to sharp play from sophomores Molly Robertson and Alicia Mokube, seniors Macey Casten and Bridgit Murphy and junior Keely McMahon-Regan. Robertson ended the set with four kills while Murphy registered three of her own. Mokube started the set with a block and also tallied a kill. Junior Dede Alualu tacked on an ace in the frame as well.

The Tigers sprinted out to an early lead in the second set and never really looked back. McMahon-Regan started the stanza with back-to-back aces. She added a kill later in the frame. Robertson also contributed three kills and a block. Junior Catie Cooper and senior Isabella Huwar also had kills in the second set.

Oakland Catholic took a 4-2 lead early in the third, but the advantage wouldn’t last. Robertson registered four kills and an ace in the frame, while Casten had two aces. Mokube had two kills in the final set, while seniors Anna Bridges and Mackenzie Jones also tallied aces.

Casten took home Wright Automotive Player of the Game laurels for her work all over the court as the libero. She led the team in digs with 15 and tied Robertson for the most aces with three. Robertson led the way with 12 total kills and she tied Jones with six digs. Jones led the team with 17 assists and McMahon-Regan registered 16.

North Allegheny starts the season 1-0 and is back in action Tuesday night on the road against Shaler.
