Tigers sweep State College Invitational to open the season

It’s a new season with new swimmers for North Allegheny, but the expectations remained the same. The NA girls and boys teams both won the State College Invitational this past Wednesday. The girls scored 612 points, 13 points ahead of second place State College while the boys finished with 634.5 points, easily ahead of Emmaus who finished in second place with 575. The team posted an incredible 50 WPIAL cuts, 33 of those were individual with two coming from freshmen Evey Masztak and Eva Zilinski.
In the 200 medley relay, the NA Girls took second, third, fifth and seventh, with our top finishers, Dani Hinkson, Tori Tieppo, Eva Ogden, and Claire Bacu clocking in at 1:48.05. The NA Boys took first, fourth and fifth in the medley relay. Winning the event were Gus Miller, Emmanuel Chu, Zachary Totin, and Grant Regule posting a 1:36.22.
In the 200 freestyle, the girls finished second, sixth, eighth and ninth. Top finisher, Julia Tengowski finished with the time of 1:57.84 The boys finished second, fourth, eighth, and 11th. Top finisher, Danny Lesinski finished with the time of 1:43.63.
In the 200 IM the NA girls took third, fourth, seventh, and eighth. Hinkson swam a time of 2:11.61 in the event. The NA boys took third, fourth, seventh and 11th. The top finisher was Nicholas Klein, who swam a time of 2:01.62
In the 50 freestyle, the girls finished seventh, ninth, 10th, and 11th. Emma Dietz was the Tigers top finisher with a time of 25.79. The boys finished first, sixth, 10th and 13th. Regule was the first place winner of the event, the second straight year he has won the 50 freestyle at the State College Invitational with a time of 21.45.
In the 100 butterfly, the NA girls came in second, seventh, and eighth. NA’s top swimmer was Claire Bacu with a time of 57.69. The NA boys finished fifth, seventh, eighth and 12th. The Tigers’ top swimmer was Totin with a time of 53.41.
In the 100 freestyle, the girls took ninth, 10th, and 14th. Tengowski was the top finisher from NA with the time of 55.84. The boys finished second, third, fifth and seventh. Lesinski finished first for the Tigers touching the wall at 47.59 seconds.
In the 500 freestyle, the NA girls ended up third, sixth and eighth. The top finisher putting in the yardage was Shelby Sundgren with a time of 5:26.05. The NA boys took sixth, seventh and eighth. Chu finished with the time of 5:04.48, good enough for the top finisher for the Tigers.
In the 200 freestyle relay, the girls took third, sixth, ninth and 10th. Bacu, Madden Woycheck, Hinkson and Eva Ogden were the top team for NA finishing with a time of 1:39.57. The boys brought home second, third, and eighth. The nail-biting team of Totin, Regule, Dylan Seiford, and Lesinski touched the wall at 1:27.54.
In the 100 backstroke, the NA girls finished sixth, eighth, 11th, and 13th. NA’s top finisher was Tieppo with the time of 1:02.54. The NA boys finished second, seventh, ninth, and 10th. NA’s top finisher was Miller with a time of 51.73.
In the 100 breaststroke, the girls tied for fifth while finishing in eighth , 15th , and 18th place as well. Top finishers touching together were Woycheck and Dietz with a time of 1:10.36. The boys ended up third, fifth, 10th and 13th. Talon Xing was the top finisher with a time of 1:02.64.
In the 400 freestyle relay, the NA girls took third, sixth and eighth. The Tigers top finishing team consisted of Hinkson, Tengowski, Julianne Weaver, Bacu and finished with a time of 3:41.40. The NA boys took third, fifth, and sixth place. The top finishing team of Regule, Lesinski, Miller, and Totin clocked a time of 3:15.69.
