Tigers take third at Pine-Richland Ram Slam; Sophia Folks wins 155 lb bracket

The North Allegheny girls’ wrestling team competed in their first individual tournament of the season on Saturday morning at the Pine-Richland Ram Slam. The Lady Tigers clawed out an impressive third place team finish out of 32 schools, led by junior Sophia Folks, who won the 155 pound bracket.
Folks went 4-0 on the day with four falls. In the finals, she pinned Cydney Rea of Northwestern in 2:18. The undefeated day improves Folks record to 12-0 on the year. Also making the finals was senior Maya Scott at 148 pounds. Scott went 2-1 on the day with two falls to take home the silver.
Freshman Alex Gosnell lost her first match at 235, but battled back to make the fifth-place match. Entering the final bout of the tournament, the Lady Tigers held a one-point advantage over host Pine-Richland for third place. Gosnell would face Pine-Richland’s Alexis Verba, with the winner securing third place for their team. After two scoreless periods, Gosnell was able to turn Verba and pick up the fall in 3:10, bringing home a fifth place medal and securing a team trophy for the Lady Tigers.
Freshman Carly O’Connell (118) and sophomore Aleigha Revelant (124) both went 3-2 on the day. O’Connell finished with three falls and Revelant had two.
Sophomore Lorelei Bungard (136) and junior Ava Anthony (142) fell one match short of the fifth-place match. Both girls went 2-2 on the day with two falls.
Juniors Anna Kovacic (118) and Ava Frailey (170) and sophomore Shanmukha Gannavaram (170) all picked up a win for the Lady Tigers.
Also competing for the Lady Tigers were sophomore Anna Svoboda (130), freshman Alexis Hartshorn (136), and junior Lily Neal (142)

North Allegheny returns to action on January 4 as they host the NA Duals at UPMC Court. Wrestling will begin at 9 a.m.
