Tigers Take Trip to Tame Tornado
The summerlike weather of Monday afternoon suited the North Allegheny Varsity Softball Team to a “T” as they traveled north to Butler and came home with a solid 11-1 victory in five innings. Sophomore pitcher Brooke Serbin picked up the victory with strong offensive and defensive support from her teammates. The Tigers never trailed after posting a three-run first inning with key RBI’s from shortstop Rachel Martindale (1) and center fielder Shannon Hamm (2). That inning set the tone for the day as NA would eventually score eight more times to arrive at the final eleven-run total. Butler picked up its only run in the fourth inning when relief pitcher freshman Audra Sapp was called for an illegal pitch to send Butler’s only tally across the plate.
Strong individual performances for the Tigers included a three-for-three day for left fielder Anna Pilotta, three doubles for Martindale which led to five runs batted in, two doubles for third baseman Kristen Chomos, and a double by catcher Jacqui Sieber, and two-RBI days for both Chomos and Hamm. In all, the Tigers pounded out sixteen hits while NA pitching limited Butler to five hits.
The Tigers get right back on the road on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Seneca Valley in a 4:00 start. With the Butler win, NA raises its overall record to 3-1 and its Section 3-AAAAAA record to 3-0.
