
Tigers Top Warriors In Overtime Thriller, 56-54
Senior guard Matt McDonough scored the go-ahead basket with five seconds left in overtime and sealed the win with a steal, propelling North Allegheny to a 56-54 victory over Penn-Trafford at the Hempfield Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon. McDonough’s heroics come a day after pouring in 41 points in a victory against Hempfield in the season opener. Dating back to the 2019-2020 season, the Tigers are 5-0 in overtime contests.

McDonough, who finished with 17 points, wasn’t the only player to deliver a clutch basket. With the Tigers trailing 51-48 in the final minute of regulation, sophomore Joe Dopirak knocked down a critical 3-pointer to tie the game at 51-51 with 25.7 seconds remaining. Dopirak totaled a team-high 20 points in a game that was nip-and-tuck all afternoon.
For Penn-Trafford, Nick Crum was the game-high scorer with 22 points and five 3-pointers. Jason Sabol connected on four treys for a 16-point performance.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 2-0 on the young season. The Tigers will visit Seneca Valley in the Section 1-6A opener on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
