
Tigers tripped up by Fox Chapel, 53-39
North Allegheny hosted the Fox Chapel Foxes on Friday night at UPMC Court. The Tigers battled throughout but ultimately lost to the Foxes by a score of 53-39 in Section 1-6A action.
NA got off to a great start jumping out to an 11-3 lead. Fox Chapel would settle in a little offensively but the Tigers led 13-7 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was all defense as North Allegheny outscored Fox Chapel 7-6 in the period to lead 20-13 at halftime.
To start the third quarter, Jon Jubeck would make a three-pointer to give the Tigers a 23-13 lead. Fox Chapel would go on an 11-0 run to storm back and take a 24-23 lead themselves. The lead changed hands numerous times to finish the third quarter and Fox Chapel led 28-27 going into the final frame. In the fourth quarter, the offense really got going for the Foxes, they would hit their free throws late, and the Tigers ultimately fell 53-39.
Carter Melzer led North Allegheny with 13 points. Jubeck added 11 points. For some big shots in the second half to keep the Tigers hanging around, Jubeck was named the Wright Automotive Player of the Game.
North Allegheny falls to 5-5 overall and 1-3 in Section 1-6A. Fox Chapel improves to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the section. The Tigers return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Woodland Hills for another section contest starting at 7:30 p.m.
