The North Allegheny boys’ basketball team took care of business in a rare Sunday matchup from UPMC Court, defeating Canon-McMillan 45-19 in the PBC Hall of Fame Classic Tournament.
After the two teams traded early baskets, NA jumped out to a 20-0 run to take control over the contest. The Tigers held a 18-2 lead after the first frame, and 26-8 lead at the half. North Allegheny had two key three-pointers in the first half courtesy of junior Will Robertson. He scored all eight of his points before halftime. Senior Carter Melzer dropped five points after two frames, while fellow senior Jon Jubeck, Carson Burns and junior Justin Stalter all contributed three points before the break.
North Allegheny continued to control the pace in the second half, with additional scoring from senior John Nestor, junior Peter Bratich and sophomores Jahlil Archer and Johnny Mosbacher. Stalter had a running shot from 20 feet that beat the buzzer to end the third period with the Tigers leading 39-12.
For his team-leading eight points, Robertson was named Wright Automotive Player of the Game. Melzer ended the contest with seven total points. An injury and illness-riddled Big Mac lineup saw eight points from sophomore Keegan Williams and six points from junior Blake Simmons.
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 7-10 overall. The Tigers are back in action Tuesday night at Fox Chapel for another section matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
