Tigers Ward Off Blue Devil Comeback, Win In A Shootout

The North Allegheny ice hockey team needed a shootout, but the Tigers earned a road win over the Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils 3-2 Thursday night from Mt. Lebanon Ice Center.

NA sprinted out to an early lead in the contest. Senior Justin Hai tallied the opening marker less than two minutes into the game assisted by sophomore Anthony Lucas and junior Joey Mitchell. Less than four minutes later, Mitchell scored a power play goal assisted by juniors Ed Scherer and Alex Costa. The Tigers took the 2-0 lead into the third period with no scoring for either team in the second frame.

Late in regulation, the Blue Devils found life off back-to-back goals from sophomore Xavier Bias. The even-strength markers were scored within three minutes of each other.

After an overtime period, the teams headed to a shootout where North Allegheny scored two goals to win the contest. Mitchell and junior Noah Logan had the shootout goals.

Senior Cam Junker stopped 43 pucks to earn the win in net. Hayden Baych took the loss for Lebo after making 31 saves.

North Allegheny returns home to the Baierl Ice Complex next Thursday for a 9:10 p.m. faceoff with Franklin Regional. The North Allegheny Sports Network will carry live audio coverage of the matchup next week.
