Tigers Whip Warriors, 6-0
The North Allegheny field hockey team dominated the Penn-Trafford Warriors on Wednesday night for a 6-0 victory in the WPIAL Division 1 opener. The Tigers dictated the pace of play from start to finish and outshot the homestanding Warriors, 23-1, and led in penalty corner opportunities, 12-0.
The heavy advantage in penalty corners proved fruitful as the first goal of the night by senior Laura Schwendeman with 20:19 in the first half came by virtue of a penalty corner. Schwendeman’s goal was assisted by senior Bridget Russell and gave NA a 1-0 lead. With 14:20 remaining in the half, sophomore Marisa Hess cashed in on a corner for a 2-0 advantage.
In the second half, North Allegheny turned the game into a rout courtesy of two goals from junior Hailey Wachowiak, one from Schwendeman and another by junior Izzy Ingram. The Tigers versatility was prevalent and contributed to a total team win.
North Allegheny improves to 1-1 on the season and 1-0 in division play. The Lady Tigers travel to Hempfield on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. matchup with Forbes Road High School.
