Tigers win fourth straight section title with 3-2 win over Pine-Richland
North Allegheny and Pine-Richland entered Tuesday afternoon’s match with matching 7-0 records. The winner of this match was going to be crowned section champions. The match was as close as the team’s records, but the Tigers were able to come away with the 3-2 victory, clinching their fourth straight section championship. NA has now won 30 straight section matches with their last loss coming on September 23, 2020.
Audrey Zheng won in No.2 singles against Sonaya Arora by scores of 6-2, 6-4. The two doubles teams made the difference in the match as Cynthia Li and Alexa Richey won No. 1 doubles over Addison Cohen and Lucy Hynds 6-0, 6-3 and Remi Heyward and Kelly Tai took care of No. 2 doubles over Priya Shah and Elizabeth Anthony, 6-2, 6-3.
North Allegheny improves to 11-4 overall and finishes section play with a perfect 8-0 record. Pine-Richland falls to 10-3 overall and 7-1 in section play. Mia Kaufman and Audrey Zheng will compete in WPIAL Doubles on Wednesday and Thursday while the team will return to action on October 7 when the WPIAL Team Tournament begins.
