Tigers win WPIAL Championship rematch with Norwin, 2-0
In a rematch of the 2023 WPIAL 4A Championship, North Allegheny was able to flip the script by beating Norwin 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Norwin High School.
After a quiet first half, the Tigers would strike six minutes into the second half when Nathan Katari drove toward the goal and was fouled in the box. Katari was score on the penalty kick and North Allegheny had the 1-0 lead. With 15 minutes remaining in the game, Caleb Rumberger threw a long cross from the corner to Zach Nash who scored a spectacular goal at the back post to give NA breathing room at 2-0.
The Tigers would play the final eight minutes with ten players and their strong defense held off the Norwin attack to come away with the 2-0 victory. NA controlled the pace of play all night, in a very physical match.
Ryan Young got the shutout for North Allegheny making four saves.
NA improves to 4-1-1 overall. Norwin falls to 2-3 overall. The Tigers will resume section play on Tuesday, when they travel to Pine-Richland to take on the Rams at 7:30 p.m.
