NA ROWERS BRING HOME STOTESBURY CUP MEDALS The North Allegheny rowing team turned in yet another powerful performance at this past weekend's Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia. The event brought together 4000 rowers from 142 of the US and Canada's best high school teams. Despite the vast, high-caliber competition, the Tiger Rowers had five boats qualify for the finals and brought home three medals. Congratulations to silver medallists Dave Reynolds and Singen Elliott - Men's Junior Double; Jordan Ellis, Tim Francis, Ryan Moravec and Michael Ban - Men's Junior Quad; and to bronze medallists Jen Landis and Ellen Maskrey - Women's Varsity Double. Landis and Maskrey were the top US finishers in their event, with the first two slots going to Canadian teams. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * INCLEMENT WEATHER CUTS SHORT MIDWEST SCHOLASTIC ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS by Donna Hudson High winds, waves and lightweight racing boats don't mix, and it was just that combination that brought this past weekend's Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships in Detroit, Michigan to a halt. Sixty-three North Allegheny rowers joined their counterparts from 47 high schools representing 11 Midwestern states for the two-day event, held at the Utica Metropark. Racing was intense as the teams spent all day Saturday, May 10, competing in qualifying heats. NA had an outstanding showing and by day's end had qualified for the finals in 7 women's events and 10 men's events. In comparison, the other six Pittsburgh-area teams combined only qualified for the same number of finals. However, winds in excess of 35 mph on Sunday, May 11, made safe racing impossible and all events were cancelled. It was a big disappointment for Tiger rowers and coaches, who were well-positioned to take home the much-coveted Team Total Points Trophy, as well as trophies for total men's and women's points. However, the team is busy gearing up for next weekend's Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia, where they will face off against 141 of the East Coast's best high school rowing teams. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TIGER ROWERS DOMINATE SCHOLASTIC SPRINTS by Donna Hudson The North Allegheny Rowing Team turned in an outstanding performance at Sunday's Pittsburgh Scholastic Sprints. The Tiger Rowers dominated Lake Arthur at Moraine State Park, capturing the Western Pennsylvania trophies for Total Team Points, Total Sculling Points, Total Men's Points, Total Women's Points, and the Brendan Foley Cup for best men's Junior Eight. The team amassed 21 medals - 11 gold, 5 silver, and 5 bronze. *BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE PHOTO GALLERY FOR PICTURES FROM THE SCHOLASTIC SPRINTS REGATTA* For more information, go to the official site of NA Rowing at: www.narowing.org.
