NA Cheer Tryouts 2025

Hello and thank you for your interest in the North Allegheny Cheerleading Program! Tryouts start Wednesday, 4/2 at 3pm in NAI Upper gym and we are excited to see everyone. A few notes leading up to tryouts. 

Attached is the NA Cheer Handbook for the upcoming season. Please read and review the entire handbook. We will enforce rules and policies in this handbook the entire season. Athletes are not allowed to tryout if they do not turn in a signed policy agreement found on the last page of the handbook. This must be turned in at the first tryout practice on Wednesday, April 2nd. Also attached is the price sheet we mentioned at the parent meeting.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

1. Tryout dates and times

– Sideline Teams -Wednesday and Thursday 4/2, 4/3  from 3:30 – 4:30pm at NAI. MMS and IMS will have busses available (Carson will walk down).

– Middle School Competition Team – Wednesday and Thursday 4/2 and 4/3, 4:30 – 6pm. Friday 4/4, 3:30-6pm. Athletes who are trying out for comp and are not at all three sessions for competition tryouts must email Coach Kaylee to make arrangements prior to tryouts starting.

–   Monday April 7th 4-5pm Middle School Open Gym. Optional, highly recommended.

–   Tuesday 4/8 will start middle school tryout at 3pm. Times will be pulled on Thursday, 4/3 for each person’s tryout. The first school to tryout will be CMS, then the other 2 schools will need to get a ride to NAI. You will be given a time when you draw your tryout number for when to come pick up your letter on your tryout day to see if you made the team.

–   If trying out for the Middle School competition team, you must attend the tryout sessions on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Athletes who are trying out for comp and are not at all three sessions for competition tryouts must email Coach Kaylee to make arrangements prior to tryouts starting. If you make the team, you will receive a letter in your tryout envelope that you pick up at the end of tryout day on 4/8. If you did not make the team, you will not receive a letter.

2. Material below is to be learned on your own prior to 4/2. We will review the cheer, chant, fight song and dance at tryout practices but will not teach it step by step. This is expected to be learned on your own prior to 4/2.

  • Cheer: Replace the color blue with “GOLD’ Replace the word LION with ‘TIGER’  – Front, Teach , Back (Videos are titled Tryout Cheer: Lion Pride)

  • Chant – Replace ‘RED’ with ‘BLACK’, ‘BLUE’ with ‘GOLD’: – Front (Video is titled 2024 NCA Tryout Kit – Sideline Chant – Front view)

  • Dance: Front, Teach, Back (Middle School dance is Level I Tryout Dance)

  • Fight Song: Video with front and back view. Skill at the end can either be a toe touch, standing handspring, or standing tuck.

3. Apparel for tryouts – No compression shorts / Nike Pros allowed or skinny tank tops or crop tops. Any NA color tops (Black, Gold, White) and bottom can be worn for tryout practice, official tryout day (Tuesday 4/8) all athletes must be in a white bow with hair pulled back clean, white tshirt, black shorts, white socks, and athletic shoes. No Jewelry allowed (cannot bandaid cover them).

4. What to bring to tryouts – Signed Policy form, Parent Contact Info (Email, Phone number, Address), Water and a good attitude!

5. Any questions about athlete placements will not be discussed until Monday, 4/14. A meeting must be scheduled with Coach Kaylee (please email kkenz29@gmail.com to schedule) and that meeting will take place in the athletic office. If you wish to view your athlete’s score sheets, they will be available in the Athletic Office after 4/14.

HIGH SCHOOL

1. Tryout dates and times

–  Athletes trying out for a high school sideline cheer team will have tryout practice 4/2, 4/3 and 4/4 from 3-4:30pm. Busses will be available from MMS and IMS. We understand rising freshman may be late.

–   Athletes trying out for the high school competition teams (JV and Varsity) will have tryout sessions on 4/2, 4/3 and 4/4,  4:30 – 6pm. If needed, coaches may ask specific athletes to stay Monday for open gym from 4-5pm.

–   We will Judge Tumbling, the Mile and Stunts for high school on Monday, April 7th after school. Tumbling may be judged on Friday 4/4 if needed. When athletes are finished with their mile, stunt and tumbling they will be dismissed or can stay for optional open gym from 4-5pm.

–   Wednesday, April 9th high school tryouts will start at 3pm. Rising seniors will tryout first. Times will be pulled on Friday, April 4th for each person’s tryout. Middle School Open gyms are March 7 & 21 from 3:30pm-5pm at NAI Aux Gym

High School Open Gyms are March 4, 11, 18 from 3:30pm – 5:30pm at NAI Aux Gym

Parent meeting will be March 18th at NAI Auditorium

6pm rising 9-12th grade parents

7:15pm rising 7-8th grade parents

WPIAL Championships

NA Cheer wins first WPIAL Championship since 2016

On Saturday afternoon, the North Allegheny varsity cheer team traveled to Hempfield High School to take part in the WPIAL Competitive Spirit Championships.

North Allegheny won the WPIAL 3A Large Competitive Spirit title, dethroning the four-time reigning champions, Hempfield and  also finished runner-up overall in Class 3A. This was NA’s first Competitive Spirit WPIAL Championship since 2016 and fourth title overall.

The Tigers punched their ticket to the PIAA Championships on January 30 and 31 in Reading, PA.

NA Cheer has 2 teams earn bids to UCA Nationals

North Allegheny’s varsity competition teams both competed at UCA regionals yesterday earning their bids to nationals at Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida in February.
NA’s super varsity team received second place and an all-time high score of 95 earning an automatic bid to nationals. The traditional varsity team placed third, also receiving their bid to nationals. The North Allegheny JV Gameday competition team completed their season yesterday placing first and scoring a season-high score of 90.1.
The varsity competition teams will be back in action at the WPIAL Cheerleading Championships at Hempfield High School on January 4th, 2025.

NA Cheer Micro Mini Camp

Come join the North Allegheny high school cheerleaders for a night of fun! Learn cheerleading fundamentals, basketball cheers, and a halftime routine to perform at the varsity basketball game on January 17th. Athletes will cheer the first half of the game and be dismissed after halftime. A T-shirt and pizza will be included with cost of registration. An email from our booster organization will be sent the week prior with more information.
