Tigers come back to beat Fox Chapel, 14-13

The Lady Tigers’ road trip to Fox Chapel began with a devastating blow before the buses even left the parking lot. Senior standout Maddie Williams, a three-year veteran and two-way force, suffered a season-ending finger injury during a Big 33 State All-Star drill. Williams, who was coming off two dominant performances to start the year, will require surgery and miss the remainder of her senior season.

Shaken by the loss of their teammate, the Tigers struggled to find their rhythm early. Fox Chapel took full advantage of the emotional fatigue, carving out a 13-0 lead by halftime. It looked like the Foxes were in complete control—but the Tigers weren’t finished.

The script flipped entirely after halftime. The Tigers’ defense turned into a brick wall, shutting out Fox Chapel for the rest of the night.

Vange Balouris was everywhere, recording five tackles and a momentum-shifting interception. She also came up with two massive fourth-down stops to get the ball back.

Danika Hogan lived in the backfield with two sacks and four tackles.

The future looks bright, too, as sophomores Brynn Hughey (six tackles) and Lily Broms (two tackles, one deflection, one interception) proved they can handle the pressure of the big stage.

With the defense holding the line, the offense finally woke up. Mia Bosley became the workhorse, grinding out tough yards on nine carries to keep the chains moving. Junior Sloane Baker stepped into the spotlight, delivering a clutch pass for the game-tying touchdown. Senior Luci Zagacki put on a clinic, hauling in nine catches and scoring a touchdown of her own. In a trick-play twist, Zagacki took reverse from Bosley and threw the game-winning touchdown pass to fellow senior Balouris, sealing the comeback victory winning 14-13.

Tonight wasn’t just a win on the scoreboard; it was a testament to the culture of this program. The Lady Tigers played for Williams, stayed composed under pressure, and proved that while individuals might go down, this team moves forward together.

The Tigers are on the road today at Valley at 4 p.m.
