NA falls to Shaler in battle of unbeatens

Despite a slow start and early miscues, the Lady Tigers showcased defensive dominance in the second half of Wednesday night’s matchup against Shaler. While the Titans ultimately secured a 22-8 victory, the Lady Tigers’ defense stole the show by shutting out Shaler for the final 24 minutes.
The first half proved difficult as two early turnovers allowed Shaler to build a 22-point cushion. However, the momentum shifted entirely after the halftime break. The Tigers’ offense found its rhythm when Luci Zagacki scored a hard-earned touchdown. Giuliana Bontempo then powered through for a successful two-point conversion, breathing life into the comeback effort.
The story of the night was the relentless defensive pressure that kept the Titans off the scoreboard for the entire second half.
The “Pull” Leaders: Vange Balouris and Brynn Hughey set the tone, leading the team with seven pulls each.
Backfield Pressure: Danika Hogan was a constant disruption in the Shaler backfield, recording four flag pulls and two sacks. The secondary effectively erased Shaler’s passing game, with both Ella Brinkley and Luci Zagacki reeling in key interceptions to halt Titan drives.
Despite the loss, the Tigers remain in the thick of the title hunt, currently holding second place in an incredibly tight WPIAL Section 1 race with just one loss on the season. The focus now shifts to a high-stakes rivalry matchup this Friday. The Tigers will host Pine-Richland at North Allegheny Intermediate (NAI) at 6 p.m.
