The UCLA women’s water polo team won an NCAA national championship on Saturday and former North Allegheny standout, freshman Becca Melanson, was a part of the victory.

The Bruins defeated rival California in the title tilt, 7-4, to complete a perfect 26-0 season. It’s the first national championship for UCLA since 2009.

During championship weekend, Melanson scored against Wagner in the quarterfinal match and scored once more against Stanford in the semifinals.  She also logged valuable minutes in the national championship match against Cal.

For her freshman season, Melanson played in 25 games and scored 18 goals with 25 assists.
