Track And Field Alumni Shine At The Next Level
By: Jared Barton
Multiple North Allegheny Track and Field alums are doing great things at the collegiate level this Spring.
At the end of March, Carnegie Mellon Track and Field held its annual invitational, which was comprised of Division I, II and III institutions. Former Tiger and current Tartan junior Ryan Podnar won the 5,000-meter run with a Gesling Stadium record time of 14:33.29.
At the beginning of April, the University of Delaware track & field team competed in its only home meet of the season, the Delaware Invitational. Current freshman Erin McGoey finished first in the 3,000 steeplechases (11:13.70). Her time ranks 10th in program history.
The Florida Southern College women’s track team competed in the inaugural Sunshine State Conference Outdoor Track Championships hosted by Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach last weekend. The Mocs competed in the 3,000m steeplechase during the morning session, which saw junior Rachel Hockenberry just miss out on All-Conference honors as she took fourth overall. The Sewickley, Pa., native crossed the finish in 11:50.35, which scored five points for the Mocs. The time was the third-fastest in program history and top time this season by FSC.
The Colorado track and field team opened competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the 65th annual Mt. SAC Relays last Thursday. Sophomore Alaina Fantaski threw 46.24 meters, just shy of her personal best of 46.37 meters set last month at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Early Bird meet in Pueblo.
