Isabella Costa Fitting Right In With Duquesne Track and Field
By: Jared Barton
Former North Allegheny multisport athlete Isabella Costa is continuing to show her skill at the next level.
Now a freshman track and field athlete at Duquesne, Costa has immediately made an impact for the Dukes during the indoor season.
She earned Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week honors following a strong performance at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational earlier this month. Costa recorded the best Atlantic 10 long jump by a freshman this season after her 5.90-meter (19-4.25) jump placed her third on Duquesne’s all-time list. She also charted season bests in four of the five pentathlon events.
Since the rookie of the week laurels, she was a part of the 4×400-meter relay team that finished fourth in 3:50.27 at the Penn State Sykes & Sabock Invitational on February 7th. Costa also took home a fifth-place finish in the long jump at 5.46m (17-11.0) during the Youngstown State Last Chance Invitational on February 13th.
The Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships take place February 27th-28th at Virginia Beach. The outdoor season is set to begin in late March.
