Jamie Luchini Named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After a big week for the Lehigh men’s soccer team in which the Mountain Hawks secured a postseason berth, junior midfielder Jamie Luchini, a North Allegheny grad, has been named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.

Luchini had a hand in three of Lehigh’s four goals in the Mountain Hawks’ 1-0-1 week as Lehigh secured a spot in the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 2011. The Wexford, Pa. native finished the week with four points that helped Lehigh to a 3-1 win at Colgate and 1-1 double-overtime draw against defending Patriot League champion No. 23 Navy.

Luchini assisted Lehigh’s lone goal against the Mids to help the Mountain Hawks pick up a point against the defending league champs.  He scored Lehigh’s first goal at Colgate in the 27th minute to spark the Mountain Hawk offense and also assisted the game-winning goal to lift Lehigh to its first win at Colgate since 2006. This is the first Offensive Player of the Week award of Luchini’s career.

Senior keeper Ciaran Nugent earned honorable mention recognition for the league’s Goalkeeper of the Week award. Nugent made 12 saves in Lehigh’s two games, including a career-high nine stops against No. 23 Navy.

The Mountain Hawks have already secured a spot in the Patriot League Tournament and Lehigh closes out the regular season at Holy Cross Saturday at 7 p.m. A win in Worcester would secure home field advantage for the quarterfinal round of the tournament on Tuesday Nov. 11.
