Tigers Win Second PIAA Title In Three Years
The North Allegheny girls’ golf team won its second state championship in three years by a dominant 18 strokes at the PIAA golf championship on Wednesday. The Tigers cruised to the PIAA crown by posting a team score of 240. Mt. St. Joseph’s was a distant second place with a 258. It’s been a terrific three-year run for North Allegheny, capturing a state title in 2015 and finishing as PIAA runners-up last season before again winning the PIAA championship on Wednesday.
A day after capturing state bronze at the PIAA individual tournament on Tuesday, junior Caroline Wrigley led the clubhouse and paced the Tigers with a 3-under par 72. Junior Christina Lewis carded an 81 and sophomore Esha Vaidya checked in with an 84. Sophomore Bella Walter chipped in with a 90 and senior Jordan Farrell rounded out the day with a 98.
The victory caps a thrilling season for the Tigers that saw them also seize their third consecutive WPIAL crown. Congratulations to the entire North Allegheny girls’ golf team and head coach Mike Hambrick for their achievements in 2017.
